(EN & ES) Ayers Rock

Not all deserts look the same. The Sahara desert looks nothing like Australia's Outback, or Wadi Rum in Jordan, even with its similar red colors... Australia's Outback is something else! Even if you are not a desert person you will surely feel amazed if you visit this place. It is simply unreal... feels like you are in another planet!

No todos los desiertos son iguales. El desierto del Sahara no se parece en nada al Outback de Australia, o Wadi Rum en Jordania incluso con su color rojizo tan parecido... el Outback de Australia es algo diferente! Aunque no te encanten los paisajes desérticos seguro que te fascinará este lugar. Es simplemente increíble... parece que estés en otro planeta!

Ayers Rock is much more reachable than you might think. You can fly directly there or to Alice Springs and drive around 6h to get to this peculiar place. It is definitely worth staying for at least three days to explore this spectacular place and even longer if you are going to Alice Springs as well. We went in June, during the austral winter. It is warm enough (around 35°C/95ºF) during day time and very cold (below 0°C/32ºF) at night. In summer it might be too hot to trek, but make sure you have a good jacket when it gets dark!

Ayers Rock es mucho más accesible de lo que uno piensa. Puedes volar directamente hasta allí, o bien volar hasta Alice Springs y conducir unas 6 horas hasta llegar a esta peculiar localidad. Merece definitivamente la pena quedarse al menos tres días para explorar este impresionante lugar, y más días si también se quiere visitar Alice Springs. Nosotros fuimos en Junio, durante el invierno austral. Hace suficiente calor durante el día (alrededor de 35°C) y mucho frio durante la noche (en torno a los 0°C ). Recomendamos visitar este lugar en el invierno austral para que hacer senderismo sea posible sin sufrir un golpe de calor o algo similar xD. Y por las noches ya sabéis, abrigaos!

Here a couple of advices: / Aquí os dejo unos consejos:

1. Rent a car for the days you are planning on staying. We weren't so sure about renting a car, we didn't know if it would be easy to move around without knowing this place...It is VERY easy, so go ahead and live the adventure of visiting this place on your own, you won't regret it and it will be much cheaper than using the "Taxi" there. Yes, that is the only possibility besides the car, you will have to pay for a Shuttle hop on hop off for 2 days $160 per person, ONLY for transportation, no guide! We thought there would be more options and didn't plan it in advance...it is not always a good idea to leave things unplanned!

1. Alquila un coche para los días que penséis pasar. Nosotros no estábamos muy seguros de alquilar un coche, no sabíamos si sería fácil o difícil moverse por la zona y si habría indicaciones....las hay y es MUY fácil seguirlas, así que vive la aventura y visita este lugar por tu cuenta, no te arrepentirás y será mucho más barato que usar el "Taxi" allí. Sí, esa es la única posibilidad si no tienes coche, el "Hop on hop off" durante 2 días te costará 160$ por persona, SÓLO por el transporte, no incluye guía! Pensábamos que habría más opciones y no lo planeamos con antelación...no es siempre buena idea dejar cosas a la improvisación!

2. Book your hostel or hotel months in advance to ensure the cheapest and best options. It can be quite expensive if you don't. During high season it might be too late to book around 3 months in advance...if that happens, don't panic! you can also stay in a hostel to avoid a very expensive night. The hostels have a fun environment, you will meet young people from all over the world as well as families.

2. Reserva un hostel o un hotel con meses de antelación para asegurarte las opciones más baratas y mejores. Puede ser bastante caro si no lo haces. En temporada alta puede ser demasiado tarde reservar incluso unos 3 meses antes...si eso ocurre, que no cunda el pánico! también puedes quedarte en un hostel para evitar una noche muy cara. Los hostels tienen un ambiente divertido y juvenil, se ve desde gente joven de todas partes del mundo hasta familias con niños.

The Olgas or Kata Tjuta

There are nice trekkings to do here (check out the next photo!). The best of Australia is that they really take care of nature, they ask not to get out of the paths. This way people don't make such an impact on the land and on the animals living there. You should also know that both, Kata Tjuta and Uluru are still sacred places for the aboriginals of this area, so please be respectful.

Los Olgas o Kata Tjuta

Hay diferentes trekkings que hacer aquí (¡échale un vistazo a la siguiente foto!). Lo mejor de Australia es que cuidan muchísimo la naturaleza y por ello te piden que no te salgas de los caminos. De este modo las personas causan el mínimo impacto al terreno y a los animales de la zona. Otra cosa que deberías saber es que ambos, Kata Tjuta y Uluru, siguen siendo lugares sagrados para los aborígenes de esta zona, así que por favor se respetuoso.

A majestic place: Uluru

There is something so especial about this place it is hard to explain...I had very high expectations but when I was there I realized the place was far above them! You will see the unique and intensive red color of the rock during the sunrise and sunset, DO NOT MISS IT!!

You can also do a trekking around Uluru, the length of its circunference is around 10 km (almost 6 miles), you will find information on the way explaining some of the traditions of the aboriginals and especial places for them even today. There is the possibility to climb to the top, there is a rope for the adventurers who dare, but they don´t recommend climbing up because of the meaning of the place for the aboriginals. You can decide it yourself! I didn't have the choice anyway because it was closed due to the wind.

Un lugar majestuoso: Uluru

Hay algo muy especial difícil de explicar en este lugar... Tenía muchísimas expectativas pero lo cierto es que superó todas. Puedes ver el color rojizo de las rocas tan intenso y único al amanecer y al atardecer, ¡NO TE LO PIERDAS!

También puedes hacer senderismo alrededor de Uluru, el perímetro es de casi 10 km, encontrarás información a lo largo del camino explicándote algunas de las tradiciones de los aborígenes y los lugares especiales para ellos incluso a día de hoy. Cabe la posibilidad de escalar hasta la cima, hay una cuerda para los más aventureros, pero recomiendan que no se suba por el significado que tiene el lugar para los aborígenes. Puedes decidir por ti mismo! Yo ni siquiera tuve la opción dado que estaba cerrado por el viento.
