Did you lose your mind? Why? Do you want to get shot or what?
These were some of the reactions we heard when we spoke about our next adventure: Jordan. Well, that couldn't be further from the truth! After all Jordan is known to be " The Switzerland of the Middle East".
¿Habéis perdido la cabeza? ¿Pero por qué? ¿Es que queréis que os disparen?
Esos eran algunos de los comentarios que más oímos cuando dijimos que nuestra próxima aventura era la de visitar Jordania. Pues bien, nada más lejos de la realidad! No en vano llaman a Jordania ‘’la suiza de oriente medio´´.
AMMAN
Jordan will surprise you. When visiting its capital city, Amman, sometimes you will feel like you are in Europe rather than in an arabic country. Most women are modernly dressed and don't cover their hair...And by the way, if you are a football (soccer) lover like myself, you should be happy here, you can watch the Spanish Football League almost everywhere in town. In Amman, don't forget to visit the amazing Citadel, the Roman amphitheater and eat Hummus at the famous (and cheap) Hashim.
Jordania es un país que te sorprenderá. Es cierto que no deja de ser un país árabe, pero en su capital, Ammán, por instantes tendrás la impresión de estar en Europa. Verás a muchas mujeres vestidas con ropa occidental, con sus cabezas sin cubrir… Y por cierto, si eres un amante del fútbol como yo, estás de enhorabuena, la liga de fútbol es casi tan seguida como en España. En otras palabras, te sentirás como en casa! En Ammán, no dejes de visitar su impresionante Ciudadela, Anfiteatro, y comer Hummus en el famoso (y barato) Hashim.
You can easily visit the country. Most of the interesting locations are close to the Isreali border, therefore you can create your own route to visit them all. On the top of the post you can see our route (marked on the map in blue). You can get around by hiring a taxi or renting a car. I recommend the second option, is much cheaper and the traffic is not as chaotic as you might imagine.
Jordania es un país muy fácil de visitar. Prácticamente todos los puntos de interés se concentran a lo largo de la frontera con Israel y será muy fácil crear tu propia ruta para ir visitándolos. Arriba puedes ver nuestra ruta (marcada en azul en el mapa). Puedes hacerla contratando taxis in situ, o bien alquilando un coche. Yo recomiendo lo segundo, es más barato y el tráfico no es tan caótico como uno pueda esperar.
JERASH
From Amman you can also visit some of the most impressive roman archeoligical sites of the world. The ruins of Jerash are as impressive as any other archeological site in Rome. Here you can very easily picture what was like the Roman Empire.
Podrás también realizar una excursión desde Ammán hacia algunos de los yacimientos romanos más impresionantes que se pueden ver en el mundo. Jerash no tiene nada que envidiar a los yacimientos que existen en Roma. Aquí puedes imaginarte fácilmente como era el Imperio Romano.
UMM QAYS
From some of these arqueological sites, is the case of Umm Qays, you will even have amazing views of the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee, today located in Syria. Don't be afraid, this area is safe.
Y desde alguno de estos yacimientos, como es el caso de Umm Qays, tendrás incluso unas vistas magníficas de los altos del Golam y el mar de Galilea, ya situados en Siria. No te asustes, esta zona es segura.
MOUNT NEBO & BETHANY / MONTE NEBO Y BETANIA
We shouldn't forget either the great importance of Jordan for the Christianity. Here you can visit biblical sites, such as the promised land, Mount Nebo, Jordan river (Bethany), etc. You can also visit these places from Amman.
Tampoco debemos olvidar la importancia de Jordania para el cristianismo. Aquí encontraremos lugares bíblicos como son la tierra prometida, el Monte Nebo, el rio Jordan (Betania), etc. Estos lugares también podréis visitarlos desde Ammán.
DEAD SEA / MAR MUERTO
Another important location in Jordan is the famous Dead Sea, which shares with Israel. Hurry up, it's drying very quickly and if nobody does anything about it, soon it will be nothing but a salt flat. Go float while you can, but do not plunge your head in it!
Otro de los puntos más importantes en Jordania es el famoso Mar muerto, que comparte con Israel. Date prisa, este está secándose a pasos agigantados y si nadie hace nada por remediarlo, en poco tiempo no será más que un salar. Aprovecha para flotar en él, pero no metas la cabeza debajo del agua!
MADABA
Not far away from here is the city called Madaba, also known as the mosaics' city, famous for the St George Church. This city is the perfect place to spend the night and relax before your next stop.
No muy lejos de aquí queda la ciudad de Madaba, también conocida como la ciudad de los mosaicos, famosa por albergar la Iglesia ortodoxa de San Jorge. Es un lugar ideal para pasar la noche y descansar.
KING'S HIGHWAY / LA CARRETERA DEL REY
We recommend you to continue through the famous King's Highway. The landscapes are spectacular. On the way to the south you will find some of the most important castles of Jordan, such as Showbak and Karak. If you want you can stop also in a bedouin village called Dana, you might be as lucky as we were and might see the Queen Rania of Jordan around here!
Recomendamos continuar vuestra ruta desde Madaba hacia el sur por la famosa carretera del Rey. Sus paisajes son espectaculares. Además os toparéis con algunos de los castillos más importantes de Jordania como son el castillo de Showbak y Karak, y si lo deseáis, podréis hacer una parada en el pueblo beduino de Dana y si tenéis la misma suerte que nosotros, quizás incluso veáis a la Reina Rania de Jordania por aquí!
WADI MUSA: PETRA
On your way to the south you will find Wadi Musa, to discover the jewel in the crown: Petra, the pink city sculped on the rocks by the Nabateans. No doubt it deserves the title of a " Wonder of the World". Amaze yourself. No matter how much you read about this place and how many photos you see of it, you will be overwhelmed!
Siguiendo hacia el sur llegaréis a la localidad de Wadi Musa, donde se encuentra la joya de la corona: Petra, la ciudad rosada esculpida en la roca por los Nabateos. Sin duda merecedora del título de ‘Maravilla del mundo’. Déjate asombrar. No importa cuanto hayas leído sobre este lugar y cuantas fotos hayas visto, te sobrecogerá!
WADI RUM
After Petra? Continue to the south! Take one of the buses leaving Wadi Musa early in the morning and head to one of the most amazing deserts in the world, Wadi Rum! Stay a night ( or as many as you want) in one of the bedouin camps, climb up the dunes, ride through it on a 4x4 and more... You can read more about this soon on our blog!
¿Y tras Petra? Sigue hacia el sur! Coge uno de los autobuses que salen bien temprano desde Wadi Musa y dirígete hacia uno de los desiertos más espectaculares del mundo, el desierto de Wadi Rum! No dudes en pasar una noche (o las que quieras) en uno de los campamentos beduinos, subir a las dunas, dejarte guiar en un 4x4, etc… Podrás leer más sobre esto pronto en el blog!
AQABA: RED SEA / AQABA: MAR ROJO
Let's continue to the south...Close to the end of Jordan you will find Aqaba, the favorite vacation place not only for people from Jordan but also for those from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. You can snorkel and dive in the mythical waters of the red sea. Just one advise for the girls, cover yourselves if you don't want to receive too much attention.
Y sigamos yendo hacia el sur… Ya casi donde se termina Jordania os encontraréis con Aqaba, la ciudad de veraneo para los habitantes no sólo de Jordania, sino también de Egipto y Arabia Saudí. En Aqaba podréis hacer Snorkel y buceo en las aguas del mar rojo. Sólo un consejo a las chicas, cubrios si no quieres recibir demasiada atención.
MUJIB NATURE RESERVE: SIQ TRAIL / RESERVA NATURAL DE MUJIB: SIQ TRAIL
In most cases you will have to get back to Amman, this is the main entrance & exit to the country. If you have time, stop at the Mujib Reserve and live the adventure at the Siq Trail. Absolutely great! Just one recommendation, take a guide!
En la mayoría de los casos tendréis que volver a Ammán ya que este es el punto principal de entrada y salida al país. Si tienes tiempo, para en la reserva de Mujib y aventúrate en el Siq Trail. Barranquismo en estado puro! Espectacular! Y una recomendación, ve con guía.

Here is the itinerary of our journey / Aquí el itinerario completo de nuestro viaje
Day 1: Arrived early in the morning to Amman, flying from Düsseldorf (flight with Turkish Airlines). We visited the Citadel and walked around the city during the day and at night.
Dia 1: Llegada de madrugada a Ammán procedentes de Düsseldorf (vuelo de Turkish Airlines). En este día aprovechamos para visitar la Ciudadela y pasear por Ammán tanto de día como de noche.
Day 2: Excursion to Jerash and Umm Qays, to visit the ruins from the Roman Empire. Going back to Amman we stop at Ajlun Castle.
Día 2: Excursión hacia las ruinas romanas de Jerash y Um Quays. De vuelta a Amman aprovechamos para visitar el castillo de Ajlun.
Day 3: We visit Mount Nebo, Dead Sea and Bethany beyond the Jordan (place where Jesus was baptized). Drive to Madaba to spend the night.
Dia 3: Visita al Monte Nebo, Mar Muerto y Betanía más allá del Jordan (lugar donde Jesucristo fue bautizado). Tras estas visitas nos desplazamos a Madaba para pasar la noche.
Day 4: We get up early to go to Wadi Musa, we stop at Showbak and Karak castles, we stop to do a trek at Dana Reserve.
Día 4: Bien temprano nos vamos hacia Wadi Musa pasando por los castillos de Showbak, Karak y paramos para hacer un trekking en la reserva de Dana.
Days 5 & 6: Exploring Petra!
DíaS 5 y 6: Explorando Petra!
Day 7: We head to the magnificent Wadi Rum! We spend the night at a bedouin camp.
Día 7: Nos vamos hacia el desierto de Wadi Rum! Dormimos en un campamento beduino.
Day 8: Goodbye Wadi Rum. Drive to Aqaba and snorkel in the red sea.
Día 8: Adios a Wadi Rum y llegada a Aqaba para hacer un poco de Snorkel en el mar rojo.
Day 9: We go back to Amman stopping by the Wadi Mujib Reserve to do the Siq Trail. Drive to the airport, where our next stop, Doha, awaits.
Día 9: Desplazamiento hasta Ammán pasando por la reserva de Wadi Mujib para hacer barranquismo. Tras ellos nos vamos hasta el aeropuerto, dónde nuestra siguiente parada, Doha, nos espera.
