We've been asked this question a million times... It might sound hard to believe, but you don't need to be rich or win the lottery to travel around the world for a year, and here you can find out how! I'm not even gonna make you wait till the end of the post to tell you how we did it, here is our secret: We prioritize our expenses and traveling is our #1 priority.

Nos han hecho esta pregunta millones de veces... Puede parecer increíble, pero no necesitas ser rico o ganar la lotería para poder viajar un año alrededor del mundo, ¡y aquí te enseñamos cómo! Ni siquiera voy a esperar al final del post para deciros cómo lo hicimos, aquí tenéis nuestro secreto: Nosotros priorizamos nuestros gastos, y viajar es nuestra prioridad Nº 1.

Okay, I know, it sounds very simple but not that many people manage to save that much, how is that possible? Well, we all like to enjoy life, go out with friends, eat out, buy nice clothes and have the last iphone... Unfortunately you can't have the cake and eat it, so here is the deal, you have to choose!

Vale, ya lo sé, suena muy simple pero no mucha gente es capaz de ahorrar tanto, ¿cómo lo hicimos? Bueno, a todos nos gusta disfrutar de la vida, salir con amigos, comer fuera, comprarnos ropa bonita y tener el último iphone... Por desgracia, no se puede tener todo, así que así son las cosas, ¡tienes que elegir!

That's right, you can't have it both ways, wheather you choose to sacrifize all the little things where you spend your money on daily, or you decide to save up to travel for one year and quit your job once you saved enough. If you are like us and feel like the sacrifize is worth it, then keep on reading and you might find some useful tips here to make your dream come true. If you don't want to give up your treats, then it's fine, I get it too! But maybe this will be helpful also for you... perhaps you use this post to know better where your money goes and how to cutt off some of your expenses to save up for short trips, or even for 1 or 2 big trips a year. But first you should know traveling can be quite addictive and you might slowly turn into a travel junky like ourselves. What I can assure you is that it will be a wonderful addiction...

Así es, no puedes tenerlo todo, tienes que elegir entre sacrificar todas las pequeñas cosas en las que gastas tu dinero a diario, y decidir ahorrar para viajar durante un año y dejar tu trabajo cuando tengas suficiente. Si eres como nosotros y piensas que el sacrificio merece la pena, entonces sigue leyendo esta publicación y podrás encontrar algunos consejos muy útiles para poder cumplir tu sueño. Si no quieres renunciar a tus caprichos, no pasa nada, ¡lo entiendo perfectamente! Pero puede que nuestros consejos sean útiles para ti también... quizá puedas usar esto para saber mejor en qué se va tu dinero y cómo reducir tus gastos para pequeños viajes, o incluso para hacerte 1 ó 2 viajes grandes al año. Pero primero deberás saber que viajar puede ser bastante adictivo y puede que poco a poco te vuelvas un "travel junky" como nosotros. Lo que te puedo asegurar es que será una adicción maravillosa...

Our secret, as I said, is pretty much saving money. But how? Here are our tips:

- Set an optimistic savings goal to make the best out of the month, but not too optimistic. It can be very demotivating seeing that you never reach your goal! The more you save each month, the closer you get to fulfill your dream or the further you can travel on your next trip. But even if you don't get to save much each month, you can still travel! there are plenty of beautiful places to see at your own and neighbour countries!!

Nuestro secreto, como decía, es básicamente ahorrar dinero, ¿pero cómo? Aquí están nuestros consejos:

- Fija un objetivo de ahorro optimista para conseguir ahorrar lo máximo mes a mes, pero no demasiado optimista. ¡Puede ser muy desmotivante ver que nunca consigues ahorrar lo que te propusiste! Cuanto más ahorres cada mes, más cerca estarás de cumplir tu sueño o más lejos podrás viajar en tu próximo viaje. Pero incluso si no puedes ahorrar mucho cada mes, ¡puedes seguir viajando! Hay sitios preciosos de sobra por ver en tu país o países vecinos.

- Grocery shopping: Avoid going to the supermarket everyday, and when you do, don't forget to bring a list with you. But most importantly, go with a full stomach! It is no secret that if you are hungry you'll buy more unnecesary things. If you have a list with you, that will stop you from buying what you don't need or too much of something. Go 1 to 2 times a week and only go back if you really need to buy something.

- Hacer la compra: Evita ir al supermercado todos los días, y cuando vayas no te olvides de llevar una lista contigo, pero lo más importante, ¡ve con el estómago lleno! No es ningún secreto que si vas hambriento comprarás cosas innecesarias. Si llevas una lista contigo, esta evitará que compres cosas que no necesitas o que compres demasiada cantidad. Ve 1 ó máximo 2 veces a la semana, y vuelve solamente si necesitas realmente algo.

- Going out to eat: Despite what you might think this is not a need but a luxury, and if you get used to eating at home you'll suffer less when you have to cook at the hostel during your big trip (this is a post for non-rich people traveling for a year, nobody can afford eating out for such a long time, what were you thinking?!). Keep your social events at people homes, or try to keep the expenses to a minimum, choosing cheap reataurants and cheap meals.

- Salir a comer: A pesar de lo que puedas pensar, salir a comer es un lujo y no una necesidad. Si te acostumbras a comer en casa no llevarás tan mal lo de cocinarte en el hostel durante tu gran viaje (este es un post para "no ricos" que quieren viajar durante un año, nadie puede permitirse comer fuera todos los días durante tanto tiempo, ¡¿en qué estabas pensando?!). Intenta mantener tus eventos sociales en tu casa o la de tus amigos, o intenta evitar gastos excesivos eligiendo restaurantes económicos y platos baratos.

- Going out for drinks: Take the cheapest beer and make it last for 3! It is funny, but many tourists come to the south of Spain and think: There is really unemployment and an economic crisis around here?! In Spain people are very outgoing and nothing can stop us from going out, not even low salaries! Which means, when the economic crisis was striking hard, people chose to get one drink but still go out rather than stay at home. So here you have the reason why all restaurants and bars are full in Sevilla all the time!

- Salir de copas: Pídete la cerveza más barata ¡y haz que te dure por 3! Es curioso como mucha gente que pasa por el sur de España piensa que la gente gasta más de lo que tiene. La gente del sur es muy callejera y nada puede pararles, ni siquiera esos sueldos tan indecentemente bajos. Cuando Andalucía sufría su peor época de crisis, la gente optaba por pedirse una única bebida y salir con sus amigos, a quedarse en casa. Así que si tu tampoco entendías cómo es posible que todos los bares y restaurantes de Sevilla estén siempre llenos, ¡aquí tienes tu respuesta!

- Shopping for clothes only in outlets or during sales: Go shopping only, and I mean only, if you need something like a white shirt, pants or a coat. Don't look at anything else! this is the hardest part for any girl... Save the struggle of seeing too cute and expensive things by using the sales periods or outlets to renew your closet. Once you think like me and translate the costs of dresses into flights it will be much easier. You might wear the same clothes in your pictures, but you get to go to the most beautiful places in the world. If you don't believe this is true, just check our Iinstagram (IG) and you'll see it for yourself. No, I didn't travel to so many places on one day, I just have 1 favorite outfit and it's in almost every picture! The other option is to get many followers on IG and get free clothes for showing them there... Good luck with that! I'm just fine with my light backpack!

- Compra ropa solo en outlets o en rebajas: Ve de compras únicamente, si necesitas algo específico, como una camiseta blanca, unos pantalones o un abrigo, ¡y no mires nada más! Esta es la parte más difícil para una chica... Ahórrate el sufrimiento de ver cosas demasiado bonitas y caras, y utiliza la temporada de rebajas o los outlets para renovar tu armario. Una vez pienses como yo y traduzcas los precios de los vestidos en vuelos te resultará mucho más fácil. Puede que repitas siempre la misma ropa en tus fotos, pero puedes visitar los sitios más alucinantes que existen en el mundo. Si no me crees, sólo mira nuestras fotos en Instagram (IG) y lo verás con tus propios ojos. No, no visitamos tantos países en un día, simplemente tengo un conjunto favorito y ¡sale prácticamente en todas mis fotos! La otra opción que tienes es conseguir tantos seguidores en IG que te regalan la ropa por enseñarla en tus fotos... !Mucha suerte con eso!¡Yo me conformo con mi mochila ligera!

- Forget about getting a coffee from Starbucks everyday, if ever. There are plenty of places to have a good and cheap coffee all over the world, believe me, drinking a nice coffee to take a break from all the walking is one of my favorite things while traveling, and I always manage to find something cheaper than a Starbucks!!

- Olvídate de comprarte un café en el Starbucks a diario. Hay muchísimos sitios donde te puedes tomar un buen café a bajo precio por todo el mundo, créeme, tomarme un buen café para descansar de andar es una de mis cosas favoritas cuando viajamos, y ¡¡siempre encuentro algo más barato que Starbucks!!

- Use electronic devices until they literally die and buy new ones only if they are absolutely necessary in your daily life, and even then, replace it by the most basic but fair quality products. If you saw our phones you'd understand exactly what i'm saying. If they gave us a cent everytime they told us to get a new phone we'd be able to travel the world during one more year! We don't even know how our phones survive the whole year... mine died right at the end, just after we arrived to Spain.

- Usa tus aparatos electrónicos hasta que mueran literalmente, y compra nuevos sólo si son absolutamente necesarios en tu vida diaria, e incluso entonces, reemplázalos por los productos más básicos y de calidad suficiente para el uso que le das. Si vieses nuestros móviles entenderías exactamente lo que digo. Si nos hubiesen dado un céntimo por cada vez que nos dijeron que nos comprásemos un móvil nuevo, ¡habríamos tenido suficiente para dar otra vuelta al mundo! Ni siquiera sabemos como sobrevivieron nuestros móviles el año entero... el mío murió justo al final, nada más llegar a España.
